Videos - Space propulsion and exploration

A small selection of videos on European and US space programmes.

Ariane5 Success Story (German Version)

Following the work of the international teams behind the success of the Ariane 5 launch vehicle.

European research into Ariane 5 started in 1973 with the objective of giving Europe autonomous access to space.

Apollo 15

Apollo 15 was the ninth crewed mission in the United States' Apollo program and the fourth to land on the Moon

Launched in 1971, the Apollo 15 mission was the first to use a Lunar Roving Vehicle.

During the mission, astronaut David Scott showed that Galileo was right: acceleration is the same for all bodies subject to gravity on the Moon, even for a hammer and a feather.

Artemis 1

Launched on 16 November 2022, Artemis 1 was the first flight of NASA's SLS rocket. Artemis 1 was an uncrewed Moon-orbiting mission and marked NASA's return to lunar exploration after the conclusion of the Apollo program. It traveled 1.4 million miles beyond the Moon, returning on 11 December 2022.

Galileo

Galileo was a NASA/JPL robotic space craft that studied the planet Jupiter and its moons during its 14 year mission. Galileo was launched on 18 October 1989 and ended when it plunged into Jupiter's atmosphere on 21 September 2003.

Galileo's bipropellant propulsion module was supplied by MBB, Germany and comprised twelve 10N (2.25 lb f) thrusters and a single 400N (90lb f) engine.

ISS Cupula Module

The Cupola is an ESA-built observatory module of the International Space Station. It gives the crew visibility to observe operations outside the station such as robotic arm activities, the approach of vehicles, and spacewalks. It provides spectacular views of Earth and space.
